An article by Lucy Seifert, Life Coach London.
Do you ever feel lonely at the top?
Life Coaching offers a confidential space to talk – and to “be yourself” and talk about the challenges of your leadership role.
As a Chief Executive, celebrity or someone in a high profile or leadership role, you may be very successful but it can feel lonely at the top.
The expectations placed upon you to achieve, having to manage many contrasting, even forceful personalities and bring them together productively for the benefit of the organisation, the demands of limited time and the pressure to be available 24/7, are but a few of the challenges. Additionally, the buck may stop with you!
"Lucy Seifert has kindly supported the work and the staff of Stuart Low Trust for over 10 years. Lucy was especially helpful to me, as CEO, when I underwent a challenging staffing re-structure. Lucy's guidance supported me in managing the difficulties and bringing it to a satisfactory conclusion. Lucy was able to get to the crux of the matter very quickly and had pinpointed the issues, and so could bespoke her guidance specifically to my requirements."

While others have managers to speak to & colleagues to confide in, whom do you turn to when the going gets tough, simply to offload or talk through and troubleshoot a problem?
Leadership and Executive Coaching offers the opportunity for you to speak freely about your professional career and personal pressures, to speak of concerns and goals without fear of judgement and in the knowledge that what is said will receive an empathetic ear and be treated in confidence.
I realise quite how much you helped me, and how my inner confidence has grown. I rarely feel like I am overwhelmed or drowning anymore, and when I begin to notice I am feeling that way, I take action. Thanks to you. I also feel much more at ease inside, a sense of peace with who I am. Still work in progress, but that's part of being alive, to be constantly evolving.

The coaching process
In working with high achievers, I use both creative, intuitive approaches and the more structured GROW model of coaching.
Initially it’s your Open Air Space, to lay on the table the issues that concern you and the goals you want to achieve through coaching.
Leadership success involves so many skills and characteristics including the ability & motivation to role model, a strategic approach, clarity in conveying the vision, mission and values of the organisation and carrying people with you, to deliver & achieve.
As a leader you may identify where others in your organisation would benefit from coaching. There is then a three-way relationship. I agree with you your goals for the employee and encourage the coachee to work towards these goals and to clarify goals of their own. We also agree a system of reporting back to you as the employer while respecting the confidentiality of the coachee.

A leader has to be practical & a realist; yet talk the language of the visionary & idealist
